WHETHER WE are outdoors or indoors, waiting at the bus stop, or taking a study break at our desks, our eyes are always fixed on one thing: the glowing screen of our smartphones. Trying to get a better look of the moving images on the hand-sized device, we tend to bend our necks to the point our faces almost parallel the ground.
This kind of “text neck” is becoming an epidemic in our society. If you look around, chances are, the pose of the person next to you will be a replica of yours. While there is nothing wrong with casually scrolling down your news feed to kill time, you must be aware that staring down at your phone anywhere, anytime can go beyond the literal meaning of being a pain in the neck. You may unintentionally ignore a friend who is calling you, or even fail to see a car coming your way, completely making you blind to your surroundings.
Just remember to straighten your backs once in a while—hopefully by the time you finish reading this!
